THOMPSON & BOWIE, LLP has been defending employers and insurance carriers in workers' compensation cases for three decades. Our experience spans six major revisions of the Maine Workers' Compensation Act and the total revamping of Maine's workers' compensation system in 1992. We now provide similar services in New Hampshire.
Workers' compensation is a major facet of our defense practice, not just a sideline. We devote substantial resources to our statewide workers' compensation practice. We represent a wide range of employers, from Maine’s largest hospital to a small, family-owned logging business in Fort Kent. They include Maine corporations and municipalities and nationally-known corporations from outside the state. Our largest employer clients tend to be self-insured. We pride ourselves on our ability to help our self-insured clients maximize the advantages of their self-insured status and control the workers' compensation risk. We also know the special needs of small employers, for whom a single serious loss can spell disaster.
We work with insurance carriers and third-party administrators located both in and outside the state. We are particularly sensitive to the needs of out-of-state clients. We offer training and timely information updates concerning the requirements of the Maine workers' compensation system to all our clients, recognizing that these services can be especially important to the out-of-state claims handler. Thompson & Bowie, LLP is available to provide legal services at any point in the workers’ compensation claims process, whether it be advice in the initial reporting and investigation of the claim, representation in the mediation phase, litigation at the formal hearing stage, or advocacy during the appeals process.
Our initial analysis of the claim ensures that a proactive approach to resolving the case is rapidly set in motion. We work closely with the claims handler and employer to develop a case strategy and a plan for handling each claim that will avoid delay and duplication of effort. Our attorneys welcome your telephone calls on any question concerning workers' compensation, general or specific.
