"Thompson & Bowie, LLP is a well-managed, efficient firm. We're conscious of industry needs and methods of operation and that helps us develop a sense of trust and mutually helpful relationships."
BIO:
Roy was a founding partner of Thompson & Bowie, LLP, along with James Bowie in 1978. He is proud of the fact that Thompson & Bowie, LLP has grown from three attorneys to eighteen, as it celebrates its 30 year anniversary. The firm has earned a reputation as a highly respected and competent defense firm, representing insurance carriers, their insureds, individuals, businesses and organizations throughout Maine, the Country and, occasionally, the World.

Throughout his professional career, Roy has been active in all aspects of insurance defense work. He has focused on professional liability cases involving the defense of architects, engineers and surveyors. He has also been involved in several high profile cases in the transportation and products liability areas. Roy is a past member of a group of defense attorneys that advises the General Counsel of the American Institute of Architects and he has lectured on construction law.

After over 30 years of trial work in State and Federal Courts, Roy is now working part time with a focus on Alternative Dispute Resolution and Arbitration, primarily in the field of construction. He also assists, when needed, in construction cases.

Roy has lived in Maine since he was six. He spent two years at the Lawrenceville School in New Jersey and received an undergraduate degree from Yale. After Yale, he spent three years in the Navy, most of that time as an engineering officer on the Newport, Rhode Island destroyer, Charles H. Roan. After law school, Roy spent two years practicing law at the Barnes Law Office in Houlton, Maine. He then came south to work in Portland.
