Jan 29, 2016: Twain Braden presented on a panel at the International Sail Training & Tall Ships Conference in Quebec, Canada

Twain Braden presented on the panel “Closing Insurance Gaps for Foreign Ships Sailing in U.S. Coastal Waters” at the International Sail Training & Tall Ships Conference in Quebec, Canada.  His presentation explored how foreign ships sailing in U.S. coastal waters and calling upon U.S. ports face significantly different risks than those presented by sailing into Canadian and other commonwealth countries’ waters. He specifically examined how such risks require an understanding of American courts’ jurisdiction, personal injury claims by passengers and crew, pollution, and possible vessel arrests and how insurance coverage exists for these risks, but ship owners and operators need to know how to prepare when considering a voyage into U.S. waters, even if they have no plans to call on U.S. ports.
