About:

In 1978 Roy, along with James Bowie, were the founding partners of Thompson & Bowie, LLP.  Roy is proud how the entity has evolved over its almost fourty year history to become Thompson, Bowie & Hatch from its original size of a three-attorney firm in Portland, Maine.

Throughout his professional career Roy was involved in all aspects of insurance defense work. Prior to assuming a position of, Of Counsel, Roy's primary focus was in the area of professional liability defending architects, engineers and surveyors against claims of professional negligence. Over Roy's distinguished career he was also involved in several high profile cases in the transportation and products liability areas which shaped Maine law.  After over 40 years of trial work in State and Federal Courts, Roy now focuses on Alternative Dispute Resolution and Arbitration.

Roy has lived in Maine since he was six. He spent two years at the Lawrenceville School in New Jersey and received an undergraduate degree from Yale. After Yale, he spent three years in the Navy, most of that time as an engineering officer on the Newport, Rhode Island destroyer, Charles H. Roan.  Outside of firm life Roy can be found running the roads of South Portland and Cape Elizabeth with his wife Sue.
